Abstract
In November 2009, the Korean Society of Hematology organized the Workshop in "How to apply antifungal agents in our practice." Here we summarize the content of the presentations and the discussions. Patients with hematologic malignancy and hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT) recipients are at increased risk for invasive fungal infection which is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in spite of aggressive use of licensed antifungal agents. The pros and cons of the Korean reimbursement guidelines of Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service (HIRA) were discussed, and evolving treatment strategies from various professional organizations were reviewed. We, as the representative of the Korean Society of Hematology (KSH), strongly recommend that the Korean reimbursement guidelines of HIRA shoud be revised urgently based on clinical efficacy, adverse events, and costs.
